CHLORINE

Chlorine is a greenish gas which is agressive even organic tissues. So it is disinfectant. Chlorine is usually used for water sterilization, drinking water and swimming pools water. Chlorine distroys all life like germs, plants, insects, fishes...
Its characteristic odour in the swimming pools comes from chloramines it contains.
There is free chlorine and combined chlorine.
On swimming pools only free chlorine is considered as a disinfectant, the combined chlorine or chloramine gives the value of dirty water. Combined chlorine is the difference between total and free chlorine.
For testing chlorine value in water we can use:
- Paper strips chlorine
- Colorimetric kits
- Photometers ( electronic and accuracy measures ).
