PERMANGANATE OXYDABILITY

It is the quantity of potassium permanganate KMNO4 used for the oxydation of organic matters of a water during a previous time ( 4 hours cold method and 10 minutes boil method ), in acid or in alcalinity. The result may be expressed on mg/l of O2 or on mg/l of KMNO4.
By this way we can exprim the global pollution of a natural water and verify the treatment efficiency.
